Concepts such as digital rights and digital advocacy are introduced into our language with today’s developments in internet and technology. Because just like people face psychological violence or harassment by others in every field, the same applies to the field of digital media. There are many people who think that they have right to insult people on social media, speak to others as they wish. However, this is not right. Such harassment and psychological violence over the social media, referred as cyber crimes, increase day by day and become more annoying.

 

Digital rights means freedom of access to information on digital media and various electronic devices as well as create and broadcast contents. Restriction of people’s freedom in that extent, in other words, preventing practice of their digital rights, is considered as cyber crime.

 

 

Digital Rights Advocacy

 

Digital rights advocacy means defending of individuals’ rights and freedom on digital media. People who are referred as human rights advocates or digital rights advocate are capable of performing various acts and actions to defend the rights of individuals who are exposed to cyber crimes.

 

Human rights or digital rights advocates bring up the incidents relating to digital crimes with an attempt to raise awareness in the society. For example, they try to raise voice to defend rights of a girl exposed to sexual harassment over the social media, and to ensure legal sanctions are imposed on the party making the harassment. If we consider today’s circumstances where cyber crimes and assaults on digital domain occur in high numbers, we can understand how important is the digital rights advocacy.
